COMMUTE &
ROAD TRIP CAR INSPECTIONS

Whether you’re gearing up for a long-awaited vacation or tackling your daily commute, careful planning and proper vehicle maintenance are key to ensuring a smooth, stress-free journey.

What Really Counts as a Road Trip?

Not every drive qualifies as a “road trip.” According to recent research, a round-trip drive of at least five hours is the minimum to officially call it a road trip. So, that quick one-hour visit to your in-laws? Not quite a road trip, but still important to plan for!

On average, most people have experienced road trips lasting around 25 hours total, with about 20% reporting epic journeys exceeding 40 hours behind the wheel — almost an entire workweek on the road! While we've done stretches of 28 hours straight, we definitely don’t recommend it.

What’s the Ideal Road Trip Like?

According to surveyed Americans, the perfect road trip averages:

  • 13 hours of total driving

  • Five days on the road

  • Four passengers

  • Preferred vehicles include SUVs/Crossovers, 4-door sedans, and minivans—offering a great balance of comfort and space.

Drivers like to stop every two hours for gas, snacks, stretching, and bathroom breaks. Favorite road trip snacks? Crackers, chips, jerky, with Cheez-Its topping the list by brand name. And you can’t forget the essential tech: 41% say they couldn’t survive without a smartphone or tablet for entertainment and navigation. We always bring playlists for those dead zones — essential for staying awake and having fun!

Don’t Overlook Vehicle Maintenance Before Your Trip

A well-maintained vehicle is your best travel companion. Neglecting routine checks risks breakdowns in unfamiliar places, far from trusted mechanics. Imagine being stranded with a flat tire, failing battery, or dim headlights when all you want is to enjoy your trip.

From long vacations to everyday commutes, car care is vital. Consider these facts:

  • Over 73% of American commuters rely on their personal vehicles daily — their lifeline to work and life.

  • Public transportation use is around 13%, varying by location.

  • Only about 11% bike to work — and yes, we often help with tire inflation!

  • Remote work surged during the pandemic, but as many return to offices, traffic and vehicle wear are increasing again.

  • Commuting is costly — transportation ranks as the second-highest household expense after housing. Preventing major breakdowns with regular maintenance saves you money and headaches.

  • Upgrading to a more fuel-efficient vehicle can save hundreds of gallons of fuel over 10,000 miles. For example, increasing from 16 mpg to 20 mpg can save 125 gallons, a significant boost for your wallet and the environment.
